You needn't worry about food essentials; grocery shopping is less than ten minutes away at the intersection of 122 and Hendricks Store Road (655). Thirty minutes down the road is the historic town of Bedford, which was voted one of the best towns of its size in America. While in Bedford, you must visit the National D-Day Memorial. If you want some variety, you can drive, motorcycle, or hike the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains or the Peaks of Otter -- which are just 45 miles away. Once you visit Smith Mountain Lake, you'll want to return again and again.Both Explore Park (near Roanoke) and Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest residence (near Lynchburg) are less than one hour away.
